*Side Note : Human trafficking is a form of modern slavery that occurs in every state, including Arkansas. The NHTH works closely with service providers, law enforcement, and other professionals in Arkansas to serve victims and survivors of trafficking, respond to human trafficking cases, and share information and resources.

Since 2007, The National Human Trafficking Hotline has identified 1,180 victims in Arkansas, but the state ranks 35th in convictions.

The latest Human Trafficking Institute report showed just two federal convictions in 2019 and one federal conviction in 2018. On a state level, just one human trafficking case conviction was recorded in the past two years, according to the Administrative Office of the Courts. Eleven new cases were filed at the state level during the same time period.

The Federal Human Trafficking Report, an annual publication providing data from every federal criminal and civil human trafficking case that U.S. courts handle each year, is a summary of how the federal system holds traffickers accountable. But it does not capture data from state legal proceedings or unreported cases.

The report ranked Arkansas 32nd for the number of active criminal human trafficking cases making their way through federal courts in 2019. That’s a slight decrease from the previous year when the state ranked 28th with seven active cases compared to the latest five cases.
